Just do the work! Many roses for Ida Rolf

The best bodywork related convention I ever attended was called the Conference of Heirs held in Berkeley, in 1996. The conference was a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ida Rolf and the "heirs" were those inheriting her works. I was selling the BodyBridge. My booth was set up between Joseph Heller of Hellerwork fame, not Catch-22 fame, and the folk from the NCBTMB (you know where to find them). One of the vendor perks was being able to sit in on the keynote addresses and any of the presentations that were not sold out.

Yes! There were two keynote addresses. I don't remember their names but one told a story about Ida Rolf taking her hands, placing them on the sides of her head whenever the din of her students squabbling over how to do her work got too loud. "Just do the work," she would say. Two keynote addresses at the conference made it apparent that directive was not followed.

Ida Rolf left quite a body of work. What I am most attracted too is her philosophical statements and what I believe to be her spiritual leanings. At the Guild for Structural Integration one will find Ms Rolf live with J G Bennett. J G Bennett was connnected to Gurdjieff who is connected to the Enneagram.
